Auditioning for The Little Mermaid:

Auditioners should prepare to sing a song/part of a song (approximately one minute in length). Auditioners can sing with the sheet music of their song (an accompanist will be provided), acapella, or with a track on their phone.

Auditioners will sign up for a time slot. This time slot will show as 30 minutes. This is your vocal audition slot. The audition continues after your vocal time slot for another 30 minutes. Once the vocal auditions are complete your group of 10 will move to a dance/movement audition. There is nothing to prepare ahead of time for this. Please dress for movement. Your audition will last approximately 60 minutes in total.

Ashland strongly encourages performers of all races, abilities, sexual orientations, gender identities, and backgrounds to audition for this production.
We are actively investing in creating an environment that is safe, accessible and welcoming for all.

Frequently Asked Question:
What should I prepare for my audition?

  • Auditioners should prepare approximately 1 minute of a song to sing.

  • Auditioners should chose a song that best shows off their voice - the song itself isn’t as important as long as it is a song that the performer is comfortable with and shows off their vocal range!

  • Auditioners can chose to bring sheet music, an accompanist will be provided (BEST OPTION), or they could play a backing track with their phone or chose to sing a capella (without music of any kind).

  • Note: For dance portions of the audition (when applicable) - there is nothing to prepare. **Just please wear clothes/shoes that are easy to move in.
